1. The viral ad I chose was “Share Some Soul”. Its link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49I_mr4LzLw.
2. The video ad has images of the new Kia Soul. Its interior images illustrated its advanced technology. The only text in the ad is at the end of the video. The words Kia and their slogan “a new way to roll” appear as the car drives away from the war zone.
3. The ad gains the attention of the audience by playing a common song “Party Rock Anthem.” Also, the hip hamsters appeal to society’s youth, who focus on being cool.
4. The ad’s pathos appeal is seen through the dramatic comparison between the destructive war zone and the sleek Soul. This is used to appeal to the emotion of the targeted audience. Likewise, the ad’s ethos appeal is seen through the interior images of the car. The GPS and push-to-start ignition prove that the car is state of the art. The ad’s logos appeals can be seen towards the end when the text reads “$14K.” This proves to the audience that the car is a good deal and is logical to purchase.
5. The audience for this ad is society’s youth who are in search of a car. This can be determined when analyzing the fact that the car makes the hamsters look hip and cool. Young adults continue to focus on looking “cool” so they would naturally appeal to the ad.
6. The ad assumes that the audience is familiar with common technology such as GPS and push-to-start ignitions.
7. The specific images of the car’s interior have a dramatic appeal to the targeted audience. As technology continues to evolve, society’s youth are always in search of the “next best thing.” If the car has these state of the art innovations then the audience would want to purchase the product.
