In Class Writing #9 Wang

The audience of this article is the general public.  The situation being responded to is the public display of user information on Facebook.  The author believes that too much information is being displayed.  There is one source present in the article and it is a web address.  The author uses the source to back up his opinion.  There are multiple logos appeals in the article as the author has logical points.  If I were to write a paper on online privacy, this would be an excellent source to use.

In Class Writing #7 Wang

In this video, Glenn Beck comments on the newest violent game, Grand Theft Auto.  He spent some time comparing the 75 million dollars spent on training soldiers to kill in World War I to the 60 dollars that can be spent for endless violence.  In his opinion, the game is a negative influence on society and its gamers.  Beck believes that the insane violence in GTA IV is going to spark negative thoughts in the gamers’ heads.   Why waste money on such terrible entertainment.  In the video, there were multiple ethos appeals.  The fact that the speech was on national television gave the viewers some trust in Back.  Also, there were pathos appeals such as the streaming scenes of GTA and the violence that occurred.  Beck even added some pathos appeals with his example of Nico beating a prostitute to death after having sex with her.  Overall the video was very informing and most likely opened the eyes to parents who expose their children to such horrors.

                Online music has exploded in popularity in the past couple years.  Artists’ new songs are contagiously spread across the Internet in a matter of minutes.  I do enjoy using ITunes to buy and play all the music that I am interested in.  The only negative issue with digital music is its influence music piracy.  I believe that music piracy is wrong simply because most artists’ receive no profit for illegal downloading. 

                I read the “The Age of Music Piracy is over” article.  The author’s exigence in this article was to inform the reader on the source of the end of Internet music piracy.  Paul Boutin believes that because music and record label companies have begun to take copyright acts on their products, piracy will no longer be possible.

In Class Writing #5

I am examining Phil Sickora’s profile.  He is selling himself as an average college student.  He has fun and has a lot of friends.  His content posted seems to relate to his images.  On the right side of his page is a buffalo wild wings ad and an adidas Basketball ad.  The buffalo wild wings ad has a football in the background.  This is an pathos appeal, in that the fact that there is a football probably means the bar has a lot of sports.  On the adidas Basketball ad, there is a picture of Pete Rose.  This is a logos appeal as people are more inclined to follow adidas if they think Pete Rose is a part of it.  The adidas ad seems relevant in that Phil seems to be interested in sports.

It is clear that Rosen’s audience is intelligent digital users.  She focuses her thoughts on mainly online networking and seems to prefer Facebook over all the others (MySpace, Yahoo).  She uses a very formal writing style which leads one to believe that she is trying to appeal to a smart audience.  In Rosen’s eyes, online networking has made meeting and communication more efficient.  This intern has improved the lifestyle of the people utilizing the internet on a daily basis.  The intelligent literacy of Rosen adds credibility to her line of work and seems to legitimize her following.  Although Rosen never actually states her viewpoint on the most efficient social networking cite, her attitude towards improved efficiency leads the reader to believe she prefers Facebook.  Rosen’s writing techniques and specific constraints help persuade her readers to similar ideas such as hers.
